Training carries real risk

Resistance training, conditioning, stretching and mobility work carry inherent risks, including:

  • muscle strains, tendon and ligament injuries;
  • slips, trips, falls and dropped loads;
  • cardiovascular events, including in people with no known condition;
  • injury caused by improper technique or fatigue;
  • injury caused by unsuitable, worn or incorrectly set-up equipment;
  • overtraining, under-recovery and heat-related illness;
  • aggravation of an existing injury or medical condition.

Before every session

  • Check your space: clear floor, adequate room, stable surface, good footwear.
  • Check your equipment: condition, collars, pins, safety arms, and the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Set machines up for your body before loading them; PumpCal's machine guides are generic and may not match your machine.
  • Choose a load you can control for every prescribed repetition, and warm up.
  • Use a spotter for heavy free-weight work where appropriate.

During the session

PumpCal cannot see your form. Video demonstrations and cues are general and are not a substitute for coaching from a qualified professional. If a movement causes pain, if you cannot maintain the position shown, or if you feel unwell, stop.

Reduce or skip anything that conflicts with an injury or limitation, and update your limitations in your profile so future sessions account for it.

You assume the risk

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you voluntarily assume the risks of the physical activity you choose to perform. Where a jurisdiction limits or prohibits such assumption of risk, this section applies only to the extent the law allows.
